Can someone please help with Train ticket info that’s fit for us? Traveling Swiss & Italy from July 15. What ticket should we buy, where from , please guide us

HI. We are 2 traveler. We will be in Zurich on 15th July 2025. I have 4 day to travel and see best places in Switzerland. From 15th to 18th July my hotel is in Zurich. These 3 days I need to stay in Zurich but we can go for day trips, need to come back to Zurich hotel everyday for 3 days. on 18th July I can stay in any other city, for example Zermatt, Bern or Geneva which is easier for me to go for my next destination, Milan, Italy. On 19th July we need to be in Milan. On 20th in Venice. 21st July I need to be in Rome. I do not have knowledge how to plan and travel in train. Can you help us to get the right train trip solution ?

You'll need to do the maths and compare.

Check ticket prices for Switzerland on sbb.ch. Be aware that the first price you see is for holders of a discount card, so go into the booking module and check the price without discount.

Check tickets prices for Switzerland to Italy on sbb.ch and trenitalia.com (they might be different).

Check tickets prices for Italy on trenitalia.com.

Then check what a Eurail global pass plus reservations for Italy would add up to. Reservations are not needed (waste of money) in Switzerland.

The shorter/cheaper journeys can be done with regular tickets, such as from/to the airport.

For Switzerland, you can also buy a Swiss Travel Pass for a number of days. In Italy, I guess regular tickets would then be cheaper, but you can also check a 3-day Eurail pass for Italy plus reservations.

Another possibility for Switzerland is buying Day Saver Passes. Their price is demand driven, so they're cheaper if you buy them a long time in advance.

Use sbb.ch for timetables in Switzerland or international; use trenitalia.com for Italian timetables. First make a plan, and only then you can see what pass or tickets you need.

Thanks rvdborgt ! My Plan is ready. 15,16,17 in Zurich, 18 (deciding, possibly Zermatt). 19th Milan, 20th Venice, 21-23 Rome. I have no clue what ticket to buy so we 2 can visit different places in Swiss and back hotel, and then head to Milan, Venice to Rome. It’d be a great help if I anyone can help with suggestions please.
