First time traveller here in Europe and so far using my Global pass here in Italy was a breeze.

But, I got a notification that TGV- France will have a train strike on the 5th - 11th of May.

I got a train reservation booked  on the 9th of May from  Zurich to Paris. Would this be affected? If yes, any suggestion on how to mange this issues, will be highly appreciated.

I already got a hotel booking in France from the 9th - 14th of May.

Thanks in advance

Which train have you booked? (Departure time)

Some trains are shown as "not bookable" aka cancelled. The others are likely to run, they usually prioritize international services like Zurich - Paris.

This TGV is already cancelled between Zurich and Basel, but tickets are still available between Basel and Paris. You must take an earlier train from Zurich to arrive on time in Basel.

Could you check again your reservation (date, time)? It seems me strange that you could reserve this TGV from Zurich to Paris on May, 9th. I think that the cancellation between Zurich and Basel is due to another reason and planned for a long time.

Where did you see it's cancelled?

Sorry, this is not the seat reservation, this is only to activate a travel day in the Rail Planner and to show the ticket. You need a separate mandatory reservation to take a TGV. Did you buy one?

The Rail Planner is not reliable, you must always check the timetable on an official railway website or app short before departure, for example on sbb.ch or in the SBB Mobile app for Switzerland.

  1. This is not a seat reservation. I hope you have one because there are no more pass holder reservations on this train to Paris.
  2. If you have a flexipass, it's not a good idea to activate a travel day in advance.
  3. Please never use the Rail planner app to plan. sbb.ch will be a lot more reliable for Switzerland. There are engineering works and the timetable you show is not possible. SBB show a few alternatives; I think the one with departure at 10:30, with a direct train Luzern-Basel, is a good one.

Yes we did make a reservation last March as we booked all our long haul early.

See attached below. Interesting that its from Mulhouse Ville instead of Zurich?

It is not the same train, you made a reservation in the TGV 6704 leaving Mulhouse at 11:56. The TGV 9218 leaves Mulhouse at 12:56.

Reservations are still available for this TGV, I hope that it will not be cancelled due to the strike. I would leave Lucerne early and take a train to Basel, hopefully some regional trains TER are still running from Basel to Mulhouse and you can arrive on time.
