Hello i am currently travelling on eurail with my family. I travelled from bratislava to Prague on 29th sep at 22.06, EN 476, carriage no 363, cabin 5 , seats 53 54 55. We found our cash 3800€ lost during journey. We have strong suspicion on conductor of cabin.he visited our cabin multiple times to supply free water bottles , cold water bottles , wipes, wake up service offer n general chat which we found unusual n in contrast to our previous night journeys on eurail. During our 10hr journey we locked our cabin n slept comfortably. He had key access to our cabin. Upon disembarking from train we found our cash 3800€ lost.
We are in middle of travel across Europe...stranded family of 5 with young kids. We have reached out to bratisalva railway authorities, prague railway authorities and eurail customer service...so far no help or solution  has been offered ....what step should we take next to get out of this distressing situation? Kindly help.

You need to report theft to the police in your location, you should also contact your travel insurance provider to make a claim for your loss.

There is no such thing as Eurail as you are describing it, they are just the company that oversees and sells passes for travel on participating railways. Your travel in all cases is with the individual rail companies that run the trains, it will be the relevant rail companies who run the trains you travel with you have to deal with for these types of issues.

The company you travelled with is Czech railways CZ https://www.ceskedrahy.cz/en and the on-board service is run by a sub-contractor JLV https://www.jidelnivozy.cz/#

Realistically, a suspicion of someone sealing is not proof, unless the police can assist there will probably be little that can be done to recover the money.

I should also say that travelling with that amount of cash is a very risky thing to do in general, debit/credit cards can be cancelled and replaced.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

We have been doing family travels for last 13 yrs across the globe and this has been our first unfortunate incidence. Carrying cash is definitely risky but our credit cards have limitations so we had to keep cash too n have been extra vigilant n cautious. This caught us totally off guard. I have done correspondence on given email addreses though chances are bleak of any positive outcome.

You must report the theft to the police. Otherwise you will certainly not get any compensation from your insurance company.
