I’m looking to travel via train from London to Amsterdam on Dec. 20, 2025.  I was looking at passes as we will be traveling to other countries as well.  I understand that it will be booked via Eurostar, but does the pass not include weekend dates for reservations? Trying to find the cheapest way to travel :)

Most November and December weekends aren’t on sale yet on the Amsterdam route - due to track work I think, so you won’t be able to buy a pass reservation or a normal ticket.

Three options:

  • Try weekdays instead
  • Book Eurostar to Bussels, and continue on a Eurocity Direct
  • Wait and see

You don’t book the pass reservations at Eurostar. The best place to book them is usually Rail Europe (website, not app. Add the railpass in the search box)

thank you!  When I went to Rail Europe and clicked add rail pass, it says “rail pass not available for this trip”. I wasn’t sure if that’s because it’s not available yet, or if it’s because of the weekend.  Looks like there’s availability for brussels on the 20th! Then we can use a Eurail pass from Brussels to Amsterdam right?

Rail Europe shows the price for the tickets and we add rail pass.  It says reservation required, is that an additional fee? and the price of the ticket here is in addition to the Eurail pass?  Am I understanding this correctly?  I had originally thought that if you had a Eurail pass, you just needed to pay the reservation fee?

That usually means either there passholder fares (the passholder fares are limited availability, so there can still be cash fares available), or it’s a train that isn’t included in Interrail.

If that’s the case, it will usually show you a cash price instead.

The passholder fare for London-Brussels is €35 in Standard, €40 in Plus. Amsterdam is a bit more - €35/ €43.

Indeed it looks like plenty of availability to Brussels.

I don’t know if you’ll be travelling with first or second class pass. Make sure to select the ‘upgrade for €5’ if you’ll be using a first class pass.

From Brussels, you’ll be able to get a Eurocity direct. The timetables for December aren’t in the system yet, but you can check for a date this week to give you an idea. You don’t need reservations for the ECD.

apparently the Eurostar direct train just got resumed recently and will be increasing daily connections from mid-december, but who knows if it will be available!  Via Brussels might be our best bet!
