traveling from Metz to Amsterdam, what is the best route. I assume we want the quickest route.  First time in Europe, trip is in February.

Traveling via Luxembourg and Bruxelles should be a good option. If you are travelling with interrail i recommend avoiding the eurostar on that route (because of high reservation fees and good alternative trains on that route)

Taking the regional train to Luxemburg, and taking the intercity from there to Bruxelles and then The Eurocity Direct seems like the best choice (its on of the fastest routes (6:50 - 7:15 depending on when you starr) and even without mandatory reservations))

Thanks for the quick reply.  I have the Eurail.  I'm a US citizen.  My son is in Metz at Georgia Tech studying abroad.  I will be visiting him in about a month.  I will only be there about 8 days so will probably want to use the fast train as I want to see as much as I can, is that the Eurostar?

On that Route the starting time makes more of a difference on how long jour journey takes. 10 mins dont really matter on a 6:50 journey. If you dont have to get a reservation you are also more flexible with your starting time.
