Hello All,

I have a global pass and will travel daily from Cologne hbf to Dusseldorf messe in next few days. Train from Cologne to Duesseldorf HBF with train pass is very fine. How about from Duesseldorf HBF to Messe. I see 79 is possible but I guess it is Metro. Can I use U79 with my pass for free or not? Any suggestion?

Thanks a lot.

Henry

The U79 is not a train and is not included in the pass. It's indeed a kind of metro service.

As you’re travelling daily: If you’re getting single, day or weekly tickets, you don’t need to use pass days.

I just checked prices: a single ticket is around 14€, day ticket around 28€ and weekly ticket 100€. all these tickets are also valid on all public transport (bus, tram/metro). They don’t allow you to use IC or ICE trains (which are not really faster than regional trains on that route).

There’s also the Deutschland ticket for 58€ for a whole month which would also cover the whole journey on regional trains and bus, tram and metro (in the whole of Germany). It is a subscription model and therefore rather tricky to be used by tourists or for short-term stays. If you need advice on how to use it, just ask.

There are a few handy options for the Deutschlandticket:

You can buy one for a specific month, either the current month or one of the following two months, at germanytransitpass.com, with no need for a subscription.

Another possibility is Mopla, where you can cancel a Deutschlandticket until 24 hours before the end of the month.
