Hi there!

I discover interrail concept recently and I love it!

I plan to go to Göteborg (Gothemburg) from Paris, and from there take a flight for Paris at the end of my trip. I’ll probably be solo traveling the entire journey as a girl, between the last week of July and the first of August and I plan to stay at hostels to cut prices.

I used the Trip Planner of Interrail and I was thinking about this travel itinerary (but let me know what you think) :

  1. Paris → Odense (connections in Köln/Koeln and Hambourg) (I don’t wish to stop too long by those cities nor Brussels because I’ve already been there for few days);
  2. Odense → Copenhagen
  3. Copenhagen → Malmö
  4. Malmö → Göteborg

I don’t absolutely want to visit Götenborg but the flights are cheaper with this departure. If you have other itineraries let me know your suggestions :)

So here are my questions

  • Since I’m a beginner in this adventure, do you think it’s doable?
  • How many days should I plan to stay in each places?
  • Where or how can I book my train tickets? Are Interrail trip planner and Interrail booking site reliable?

Thank y’all!

This guide for travelling from France to Denmark might help: https://www.voyagerentrain.fr/copenhague/#paris

If you want to save a little time, and because you don’t want to stop in Cologne, you might consider the European Sleeper from Paris-Hamburg. It runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in that direction, starting from 13 July.

How much time do you have for your journey in total? It sounds great for 10 days or 2 weeks. I would plan a minimum of 3 mights in any one destination. Any less, and you spend too much time travelling + checking in & out of hotels.

It would be a shame not to visit Stockholm if you have time, too.

If you want to save a bit of money, avoid Eurostar and travel via Mannheim or Frankfurt. Reservations for Eurostar are quite expensive.

If you're using Interrail, then that is your ticket. You don't need to buy any other ticket for trains included in the pass. You will need some reservations:

You should also compare with regular tickets. On bahn.com, you can buy through tickets from Paris via Mannheim to Schleswig (last stop in Germany of the trains to Copenhagen). Exclude regional trains to get a ticket valid on the train to Copenhagen. Then add a ticket from Schleswig to Copenhagen for the same train. Copenhagen-Malmö and Malmö-Gothenburg are just short journeys.
