Two day trip from Europe to London, UK.

Hi. I’m using 8 days of a 10 day in 2 month pass to travel from the UK to Turkey. Then I’m flying back. Before the 2 months expire I’d like to fly to somewhere served by a budget airline and travel back to London, UK. I’d be interested to hear any suggestions or routes people have followed. Ideally 6 hours or so on the train each day. Thanks.

Milan and back across the Alps is a classic.

You've got the Gotthard route, Brenner, Simplon or even Bernina.

There's also Fréjus on the Milan - Paris TGVs (infrequent trains, often sold out -> book in advance).

Hi. That looks like a great journey. Thanks so much. I’ll have a look on the Interrail site and see about flights to get out to Milan. I appreciate the input from you.

If you have a departure date in mind, I find Google Flights has a very useful map-based search. For example search “London to Italy” and you’ll be able to scroll around a bit to find a cheap flight (it quickly repopulates the map with other airports in other countries when you start scrolling around).

In general, a route that takes you back through Germany to Brussels is better than trying to come back through France to Paris, since you don’t have to worry about reservations.

As for travel time, I find this map really useful, showing how far you can get from a location in X hours: https://www.chronotrains.com/en?maxTime=4

Hi. Thanks. That very helpful. It’s still early stages but I’m heading through Paris to Istanbul on the outward leg so a return through a different location would be nice.
