Question

when adding a night train to my interrail pass I notice it is as if I need two travel days for one night train ticket

I have a 4 day global interrail pass, We will travel from brussels to istanbul starting on 17/7/2026.

I bought all 4 tickets for 4 night trains via the national train company websites (with indication I have global rail pass - so I bought at reduced price).

Now I am adding the journeys in the rail planner app.

I have 2 questions:

Question 1: for the night train from bucharest to vienna on 8/8/2026 the start time as per my ticket is 15:00 , but I don’t find this train in the rail planner app - in rail planner app start time states 16:00.  So what should I do ?  Do I select the train of 16:00 in the app to add it to my rail pass or is there another option ?

Question 2: for the night train from vienna to brussels leaving on 9/8 at 18:13 and arriving in brussels on 10/8 9:38

there are two legs shown in the rail planner app :

on 9/8  Wien -Aachen and Aachen to Bruxelles  - > I selected 9/8 as a travel day and selected this leg

on 10/8 Aachen - Brussels   → If I select this leg the app states : it seems you used all your travel days.

Does this mean I need to use 2 days of my global pass for this trip (although it is one train ticket) ?

I see the same for the trip from bucharest to Vienna

thank you for your help.

Question 1: Did you book your ticket from ÖBB? The timetable in the railplanner app appears to use the local time and the time on the ÖBB ticket is for the timezone of Austria

(noticed the same with my arrival time as i was travelling from Vienna to Brasov)

Question 2: The Night train does not arrive that early. (I think you choose a connection with a change to an ICE. ) If you have any changes after midnight you will need 2 travel days.

If you stay on the night train all the way to bruxelles, you will only need 1 travel day for the journey.

Hi Marvin,

THANK YOU for your fast reply

Question 1- I did indeed book the ticket via OBB website - but I don’t think it is due to timezone difference because if it would be in local austrian time (16:00)  that corresponds with a local time in bucharest of 17:00  - I think the time has changed from local bucharest time 15:00 to local bucharest time 16:00 (as I see in the OBB scotty app the start time of the train is also 16:00)

Question 2 : I bought 1 night train ticket from vienna to brussels on the OBB website on the ticket it states  start at 18:13 ; arrival at 9:55 (not 9:38) -  it is the train 448 - So I should be good then - and ignore that in the rail planner it shows two legs, correct.

Question 1:

In the route planner ÖBB Scotty it shows the local time, its only different on the ticket.

Question 2:

Just add the train 448 from Vienna to Bruxelles as one train ( why do you have it separated into vienna - Aachen and Aachen- Bruxelles?, i can find it as one train, it just has a slightly later arrival time then you mentioned)

Additionally, it seems you have already activated your pass and all travel days. That is not a good idea. You can only cancel before validity starts, which is at midnight. If anything happens after that, e.g. you wake up ill, then it will be too late to change and you may loose a travel day.
