Just about to plan an Eastern Europe trip for 2026  (before Putin takes it all !).
Never used Interrail before so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
Can I go direct from London (my home)  to Paris on Eurostar as my first travel or should I fly to Mainland europe and work from there ?
Any suggestions ad/or tips for an Eastern Europe trip beginning and ending in London would be most welcome

No need to fly. Interrail is valid on Eurostar, but you need a reservation, best booked on raileurope.com (Use "Add rail pass” and change currency to euro to avoid the 5% mark-up for other currencies.)

Start with this general introduction:

For reservations, use this page as a guide:

You can get quite far East / South in a single travel day from London, eg:

Eurostar to Brussels, then sleeper to Prague or Vienna
Eurostar to Paris, TGV to Stuttgart, sleeper to the Balkans, Vienna or Budapest

It kind of depends on your preferences, how long you want to take, and where you want to stop. (And what you mean by Eastern Europe!).

I would have a look at the Interrail map + some of Seat61’s suggested routes from London (example for Budapest - just click any country on the left for others) for inspiration.

If you are looking for destinationions in eastern Europe. Prague aswell as Budapest a fantastic cities to visit. If you have more time going to Bukarest(Romania) is also worth an idea. (But the night train from Budapest to Bukarest is a bit slow and takes quite some time.

But doing Prag - Budapest - Bukarest - Vienna is a decent idea.

@David Graeme-Baker  How much time are you planning for the eastern europe trip?
