Hey, I was thinking to get the Eurostar from London to Amsterdam on the 23rd Dec for the xmas markets etc and leave on 26th Dec. Open to options from here on, ideally see another country or two if possible. Thanks Ange

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. Im totally into reading all the amazing 👏 tips and itineraries. I have learned so much and I can't wait to get my first trip booked.

Any suggestions on whom to book accomodation with as a single traveller? It's quite expensive so any tips on whom to use would be good 👍

“London to Amsterdam on the 23rd Dec” . . . you and many thousands of others in the run up to Christmas.

Make sure to book your Eurostar reservation before locking anything else in as these will be in high demand and once they are sold out you will be out of luck.

The good news is that you currently have plenty of time, but do not leave it until everyone else has firmed up their Christmas travel plans.

Thanks for the heads up, hoping to book the Eurostar in the next week or so.

I did this last year and had a great time. I respect you doing it so close to Christmas. Hardcore.

I may be too late, but you can read my adventures (yes, I am that shameless) to get yourself in the mood.

If you’re coming from London, I’d suggest trying any of these in addition to Amsterdam as they’re sort-of along your route or not far from each other but might not quite fit your dates (Cologne):

  • Lille (20 Nov to 29 Dec) - Eurostars go to and from here
  • Liège (28 Nov to 30 Dec) - French-speaking Belgium, has vin chaud
  • Brussels (28 Nov to 4 Jan) - Brussels is nice. Eurostars go to and from here
  • Bruges (21 Nov to 4 Jan) - watch the film first
  • Antwerp (5 Dec to 4 Jan) - the railway station is utterly stunning
  • Cologne (17 Nov to 23 Dec) - right next to the Cathedral, next to the Hbf. There are others

Another notable mention is Strasbourg (26 Nov to 24 Dec) - the mother of all Christmas markets in France. If you only do one in France you should do this if you can get there unscathed; there’s a direct TGV from Brussels, but SNCF Connect is refusing to show anything after the 15th December at the moment.

Have fun!
