You should not activate your mobile pass before the first day of your travel and you don't need the passport number before you activate the mobile pass. So everything is fine.
Which train (route, date and departure time) are you trying to book?
If you want to know whether the pass is valid on a train, then look it up in the Rail planner app or on the Eurail website. It will say "Not inn pass network” if passes are not valid and it's mostly right.
