Question

Booked wrong pass type for child

Hi - I booked two youth passes accidentally rather than two children passes. Kids are 5 and 8. I don’t care too much about the money but is this going to be an issue when traveling? Not sure how strict ticket inspectors will be on their ages.

Thanks!

That won't be an issue. You can still exchange the passes if you want. If you bought them less than a week ago, you'll get a full refund.

There will be no issue. But as child passes are free it should be worth to change them if still possible. Child passes can only be bought together with a different pass ( up to 2 childs). So you might have to return  your adult pass too, to purchase them together.

Thanks! I didn’t realize child passes were free. I booked two weeks ago and we have a total of 8 people on our booking. I booked seat reservations as well and it seems like $47.60 for Austria-Switzerland and $57.12 intra-Switzerland reservation fees are non-refundable. There is a Switzerland-Paris seat reservation on TGV that may be partially refundable, but not sure without submitting the refund request ($295.12).

Do I need to cancel the seat reservations if I refund and re-book the passes? We still want to travel on those trains.

Unless I’m thinking about this wrong, refunding 8 passes costs €400 ($475) to save $504 by booking child vs youth passes.

If I can keep the same seat reservations, maybe it would be worthwhile to refund the two youth passes and one adult pass and rebook as adult plus two children.

Would appreciate any thoughts! Thank you.

Is it no possible to just refund 3 passes?

You should be able to keep the seat reservations.

You just need to exchange 3 passes and yes that is possible. No need to exchange any reservations.

See this page:

https://www.eurail.com/en/eurail-passes/ordering-info/refund-exchange-policy

(for next time: passes bought on allaboard.eu are fully refundable also after more than 7 days.)

For booking reservations, it best to use this page as a guide:

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

It will save some money because Eurail add a €2 booking fee per person and train.

Thanks! I can refund three as long as I can use the same seat reservations. Just to confirm, reservations aren’t tied to the specific passes?

Just to confirm, reservations aren’t tied to the specific passes?

That is correct. Reservations won't even mention your pass number, only your name.
