booking "free" trains with pass

I want to travel from Brussels MIdi to Amsterdam Centraal in March.  When I enter my Global Pass information it says the trains are free.   This means that I am blocked from making a reservation. I would like to confirm my seats.  How do I do this?

Also, how long should i typically need to transfer trains in the same station?

If a train doesn't have reservations, then you can't book. You board and find a seat. You didn't mention any specific train but from the Belgium to the Netherlands, only Eurostar can be booked and their reservations are quite expensive and have limited availability.

How much time you should plan for a transfer depends on the station and the full journey that day. What is plan B if you miss your next train? If there's another train soon, then it's no big deal. If however you're connecting into a night train that only runs once a day, then you should plan a healthy buffer.
