Can I save my outbound travel day if I pay for my trip to Strasbourg

We will travel to Spain next week, starting from Germany and using the Deutschlandticket to Kehl and a train ticket Kehl-Strasbourg, so our first travel day will be a normal international travel day. Will we be able to use the saved outbound journey day for another trip later on? We have 10 travel days in 2 months passes.

Yes, no outbound journey will be needed if you start your trip outside Germany.

I’m not 100% sure, but you could travel without ticket if you activate manually a journey from Kehl(Grenze) to Strasbourg, indicating that Kehl(Grenze) is in France. Could someone confirm this option?

That is correct, the Deutschlandticket is valid until the border, and Interrail is valid from the border. No extra ticket needed. Of course, if you're staying overnight in Strasbourg and you have a flexipass, it doesn't make sense to use a travel day for just a short journey to Strasbourg.
