I was planning on going with a few friends during august 2026 and i got to activate my pass with the validity period being that month. Some things came up and we ended up deciding that a later date would be betted. Can i change the validity dates of my pass, since the period has not started yet?

Just cancel the activation in the app. And check what the latest possible start date is.
It's not recommended to activate the pass in advance. There's no need for it. Only activate it on the day you start your trip. The same is true for travel days.
