If i get a pass for 1st of july till end of august, Do I then HAVE to use the first of july? Or can I start later? Of course I dont expect it to be extended, but I am not sure on what day I can leave so i want to book more days then necassary so that i can leave between 1st and 8th...

You can activate the pass on any date within 11 months after you buy it, if you buy the mobile pass.
If you buy the paper pass you need to decide the start date when you buy the pass.
And you don't have to start travelling on the first day the pass is valid.
