EMERGENCY - Trip starts TOMORROW NIGHT - App forced update on iOS 15.8.8

Hello Forum and especially Support Team,
I am in a severe emergency. My trip starts tomorrow night (Sunday).
I purchased a Mobile Pass. An older version of the Rail Planner app is already installed, but I have an iPhone SE iOS 15.8.8  and when I try to open it to add my pass, it triggers a forced update screen and prevents me from accessing my pass. I cannot update the app due to iOS limitations, and I do not have access to another smartphone.
I already submitted an official support ticket yesterday evening, but I have not received a reply yet. Thing is, had I known, I’d have bought regular train tickets. I’m travelling to France on relative short notice for the funeral of my aunt there.  When I compared prices, Interrail was the cheaper option, so. And even I cancel the pass now - regular ticket prices have meanwhile GONE THROUGH THE ROOF and I can’t afford to buy those tickets. Really can’t. Help???
This is my ticket number from the support request email: 1519055
And could I please, please, just directly chat or otherwise communicate (gasp, phone?) with an actual human employee?

Unfortunately you need iOS 16.0 or later to run the Rail Planner app, and there’s no way around it.

There’s nothing that customer service will be able to do to change this. They don’t offer phone support.

Depending on where you are, is there somewhere you can buy a second-hand iPhone or Android? Not ideal, but it might save your trip. You should be able to do this relatively cheaply.

I don’t think it’s possible to buy paper passes at the station from DB any more - otherwise that might be an option.

Alternatively, post the journey you want to make and we can maybe help find cheaper tickets.

Well thanks, but no, just randomly buying another phone is not an option right now. I’ve never had anything BUT second hand phones which I bought cheply and use until they break, save the planet and all. Also, no money. As I’m an almost boss level user of the DB, maybe that might be an option (priority hotline does exist). But I’m highly doubtful they’re still doing the paper thing. Worth a try I guess.

iOS 16 has been the requirement since 6 January 2025.

DB does still sell paper passes, at their ticket offices.

A paper pass or getting a compatible phone are your only options.

I don’t know about Germany but where I am there are numerous used Android 6 and above phones available for €30.

The minimum Android version was changed to 8 on 1 June 2026.

They should probably change this page then.

@Eurail Community Moderator the mobile pass FAQ lists the incorrect required Android version.
