Hi All,

I and my spouse are planning a Europe trip for about 12 days covering Switzerland (6 days), Paris (3 day) and Amsterdam (2 days) with trains as primary mode of transport I am confused between which pass to buy does Euro global pass give discounts in Swiss and should it be active example I take a 4 day pass in 15 days can I keep 4 days days for Paris and Amsterdam or do I need to activate pass for days in Switzerland as well. Also outside of Switzerland bulk of the journey will be between Amsterdam - Zurich and Zurich - Paris does it make sense to buy a Euro Pass?

Best Regards,
Prasanna

Hi @Prasanna2208

If you want to travel in Switzerland, you will also need travel days. Discounts in Switzerland are for excursions not covered by the pass (e.g. boats, mountain trains). Regular tickets may be cheaper as a travel day if you travel only on short distances, it depends on where you will be staying and which places do you wish to visit.

@Prasanna2208

It is difficult for me to give a definitive answer, I don’t know if Swiss tickets would be cheaper as buy more travel days on a Global Interrail Pass. Sorry, I’m not a travel agent who organize your trip. In Switzerland you have also non refundable Saver Day Passes, but the prices depend on the dates of travel, you must buy them in advance and they are not valid for mountain excursions. You can also buy a Swiss Half Fare Card to reduce the costs, but I don't know if you will travel enough to make it profitable.

Iff I'm correct, Interrail pass does give you discount on Jungfraujoch (30%) and Mt.Titlis (25%)

https://www.titlis.ch/de

https://www.jungfrau.ch/de-ch/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/plateau/

So, you can use the 15 day pass for the whole trip and when booking the mountain excursions, show the Interrail pas at the register.
Or when you book your ticket online, you can enter your Interrail card.

And only activate your Interrail day when you are traveling on that day, this way you can spend the days as you like.

As far as I know, Jungfraujoch is also 25% discount, from Grindelwald or Wengen. Interlaken to Grindelwald / Wengen is fully included.

Also the cable car (Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp) + train(Grütschalp to Mürren) to go from lauterbrunnen to Mürren is included in th interrail pass just like the normal trains.

The way I would approach this is . . .

Check how much a 15 day continuous pass is - €357 in the current sale

Check how much a 4 day in a month flexi pass costs - €212

Ask yourself a) will you get €212 worth of value from your 4 travel days and b) will you spend more than €145 (€357-€212) on train tickets in Switzerland.  If so - go for the 15 day.

My guess is that the 15 day continuous will be better value - Swiss ticket prices can be pretty hefty.  The continuous pass also gives you the flexibility to travel whenever you want on your entire trip.

For example, a quick check shows that Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen by itself will cost you ~€40.  You can see how a few of these will soon eat up the difference between the 4 day in a month and 15 day continuous fare.
