Family 4. Planning to go to Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Rome starting from Kaiserslautern, Germany. How many days of Global Pass or Interrail pass should I get? We want to travel by train or bus. Thank you.

Here is some advice :
- Kaiserslautern - Amsterdam : about 6h, 4.50€ seat reservation on next.bahn.de (optional but recommended until Cologne/Frankfurt, mandatory to enter the Netherlands via ICE) for the whole journey, 9€ for the whole family
- Amsterdam - Paris : 32€ seat reservation (can sell out weeks in advance)
- Paris - Barcelona : 37€ seat reservation for the direct TGV, very popular. Book ASAP for this summer
- Barcelona - Rome is not possible in a day, you’d have to stop for a night (or more) around Nice. Expect two 10h travel days.
- Barcelona - Nice : “faster” option 27+10-20€ in seat reservations or fully reservation-free for the longer option. Alternative : ferry Barcelona - Civitavecchia (near Rome)
- Nice - Rome : 9h journey, 13€ seat reservation for Genova - Rome
As you seem to live in the US you need a Eurail Pass (same as Interrail but you’re not limited to 2 days in your country of residence). You’d need at least a 5-day pass if you do it fully by train :)
Unfortunately you’ve chosen the routes that require the most expensive seat reservations...
