Hello. I’m planning a 3 week trip stretching from Barcelona to Belgrade, and was planning to take the train through the south of france and north of italy. I’ve heard a lot on here about the issue of rail pass vs just buying individual tickets, especially in France, Spain, and Italy. I was wondering if there is any advantage at all to buying a rail pass in these places on this time frame?
EURail Pass vs Seat reservations in South Europe

The only way to find out is to do the maths yourself. Bearing in mind that a pass is a lot more flexible than tickets, and reservations get much easier and cheaper once you get the other side of France.
If you can’t find live ticket prices, there are some good guidance on Seat61 for what sort of prices to expect for some major journeys. Just select “If your journey starts elsewhere” at the top of this page to find each leg.
For reservation costs with a pass, see here.
Going via Italy & Slovenia you’ll run out of trains in Croatia. There are no international trains from Zagreb to Belgrade, so the usual route is to take a bus from there. You can do the whole thing by train if you go via Budapest; there is a new Eurocity due to start this month from Budapest to Belgrade.
