I want to make a reservation for a train trip from Amsterdam to Zurich but it is a paper ticket. I will not be staying in Amsterdam and will just be passing through. Can I provide an address in Spain so they can send the ticket?

It may not be advertised well enough on the Eurail website but reservations are very often available online through the railway companies directly or Rail Europe as well. This saves the huge hassle of paper reservations. You’ll save money as well as Eurail charges 2€ fee per person per train (+ postage when “required”). So please don’t book that reservation through eurail.com!
Have a look at this guide: https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm
For Amsterdam - Zurich you want to look at nightjet.com (selecting Eurail in the discount list). Slightly off-topic: don’t travel in a seat, choose a couchette or a sleeper for a better experience! ;)
Don’t hesitate to ask anything and have a good trip.
Thank you for your kind reply. Can you tell me when I apply the Eurail discount? I reached the payment stage and the total to pay is the ticket price.
Thanks
At the first step, click on change → discount cards.
Thank you very much for your kind reply. Can you help me with anything else? If I want a seat and not a cabin, where can I reserve it?
The seating carriages of this night train are classified as IC (Intercity). Available on the ÖBB website for 3€.
However I would very much advise against travelling in a seat on that night train. Seats cannot recline, lights are fully on, there are announcements all along, frequent pickpockets. On busy days people are even standing overnight/sleeping on the floor. You won't sleep at all.
Please pay 40€ or so for a couchette in a shared compartment, much better experience. Or travel during the day, having lunch in Cologne for example.
Hello, thank you very much for your response and help. Can you tell me if this is a good option, the one I marked in red?
I have a question. I see that it is for four people. We are traveling with two people. Can two others be accommodated in the same cabin?
Yes, the can be 2 other persons in the compartment.
Alternatively you could book a double sleeper cabin. At the moment they only seem to run to Basel (half the carriages terminate there). It is more expensive though…
Second option would be the Amsterdam-Innsbruck night train. From mid-April it should run using the new minicabins: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/nightjet-new-generation.htm#mini-cabins
Thank you very much for your response. I understand that you recommend that I get to Zurich by other routes?
My list ordered by preference would be:
- 1. Amsterdam - Zurich night train: couchette/sleeper
- 2. daytime trains
- 3. Amsterdam - Innsbruck night train: (minicabin), couchette, sleeper
- 4. Amsterdam - Zurich night train in a seat
Thanks and can you recommend the one from Amsterdam to Basel Bad Bf? They have a compartment for 2 people
Yes it's good. Only downside is you'll wake up at 5am (unless the train is delayed).
Thank you very much for all your support, I am new to the pass and I have many questions. One last question, when one of the trips does not require a reservation, do you go directly to board the train? Or do you have to do something beforehand?

In the app, you add the train to your pass and then you board and find a seat.
