Hi,

I read on a blog that tram and bus transport on Switzerland is free via your hotel if you make them aware you have Eurail pass. I cannot find solid proof of that , and if it is all hotels - could anyone who's done such a thing confirm please? Is it only certain hotels , or are there various ways to get free or reduced public transport (other than the trains of course)

Thanks

hey, as far as I know, that's not included. I did hear that some hotels offer a Guest Card, wich allows you to travel inside town for free.
Iff you stay at an hotel, ask them about it.

When I'm in Switzerland for more days, I buy a Swiss Travel Pass Flex. Almost all transport for free (read the conditions) and only a few scenic routes need a seat reservation.

@Jem

In Geneva, for example, you receive a mail in advance, you can download the ticket before your arrival and use it from the station/airport to your hotel, but every city has its own rules.

Quite a few cities have a guest card that includes some of the local transport. ( For example guest cards in Luzern, Interlaken, Davos  include local transport in some form)

Some of the best valued “guest passes”:

  • Ticino ticket: free transport in whole Ticino!
  • staying overnight in St. Moritz area: if you stay 2 or more nights, free access to many cablecars which usually cost 40+ CHF already… great value

If you stay at a hotel in Berne you get a guest card that is valid for public transportation in the area

I agree that the St Moritz guest card is great value.  We were there last year and used it on local buses, cable cars, funiculars and also the RhB line between St Moritz and Ospizio Bernina (or maybe Alp Grum, I can’t remember).

It doesn’t cover the southern part - the line down to Tirano, but that wasn’t a problem for us as we we also stayed in Brusio and their guest card covered the other half of the line.

Basel guest card lets you travel for free in trams and buses too.
