Getting nervous, it used to be the easier or the same?

I am going on a trip soon and will be using the mobile pass for the first time. I read and watched the video on how to use the mobile pass but it was very fast moving, even pausing and re-watching. I have the 7 days in a month mobile pass.

12 years ago I had a paper Eurail pass, again for 7 days in a month, I simply picked the train I wanted, by writing the train and route on paper, and hopped on. Sometimes I even boarded the train first, sat down, then wrote down the name of the train I was on after departure.

Is it still that simple? I don’t know why but it makes me very nervous because it seems a lot more complex, with hard deadlines on when to book and choose a train. I see ‘up to 24 hours’ etc. I am now a family of 4 and imagine myself frantically trying to link the train I need for 4 people at the last second, or trying to activate the day too early and losing one of my days.

I’ll be in Italy and Switzerland. Most of the trains I am taking need reservations, which I already got through Eurail. I’m worried about linking all those. With the trains in Switzerland that I don’t need a reservation, would it allow me to make last minute changes if needed?

Thanks for any help, I need my nerve medicine! 😁

Hello,

the app works like a diary and you need to add all the trains that you take.

The most inportant thing is to activate a travel day before bording the first train of the day. But I do not recomend to do it the day before, can happen that you change plans and after midnight a activated travel day can't be cancelled.

You can add all trains at home in the app and only add it to the pass when you enter the train. Or add more options and only check the one that you take.

For me it works faster and better then by paper.

There's no 24 h deadline, so don't worry about that.

In Switzerland seat reservations are totally unnecessary and a waste of money so using Eurail there is really easy. Just make sure that you have activated the train before boarding the train. Swiss train crew can be very picky about that.

You're lucky you didn't get fined! You don't have a valid ticket until you've written your trains in the diary.

Actually, because you already used the paper pass, you have a head start on everybody else. Because the mobile pass is effectively trying to replicate that experience.

Adding a train to My Trip = penciling in your train journey

Toggling a train = writing it in ink

Toggling the first train of the day, to activate a new travel day = writing the date in one of your seven boxes.

Just like a paper pass, any reservations you make aren't linked to your pass on any way, but if you booked then through Eurail, they'll show in your app.

You'll get the hang of it!

Thank you all, I am feeling better about this. My trip starts tomorrow, I wish you all save travels in the future.
