Glabal Pass Plus

I am very confused about the Global Plus pass and whether it is worth it. All the reservation fees showing say “from” this or that amount, so it’s difficult already to understand the full cost until you book, and with the plus pass it’s difficult to know which trains will not be covered and how much in monetary terms the extra 3 credits are worth - do they cover the cost of the reservation or what??

It’s all very confusing. I am travelling from the UK to France and Germany via Belgium.

Near the end of that page is a table which shows the included reservations and which ones use a credit (its the expensive ones like eurostar, and a couple expensive international train from france mostly)

https://plus.interrail.eu/en/global-plus-pass#credits

In my opinion its only worth it if you travel through france, italy or spain as those are the ones where you have mandatory reservations on basicly all highspeed trains.

Most reservations do not have a dynamic price. (also the interrail reservation service adds a 2€ fee on top of the reservation cost)

TGV in france are one of the few options that have a dynamic reservation price (10/20€).

In your case you would have the 2xeurostar from UK (which you can do with 2 of the included credits)

Reservations in Germany are optional and relativly affordable (5,50€ for a complete connection including multiple trains)

Eurostar + France are going to be main reservation cost on your trip. (TGV also uses a credit if the reservation cost has increased to 20€ because of demand, so they should be booked early)

I used the Plus Pass last year. In your case, I suspect it'll be borderline if it's worth it.

The pass costs a fixed €100 over the cost of a normal pass. The 3 credits will cover you for three ‘expensive’ reservations - eg Eurostar bookings (worth €35 each), and you get unlimited cheaper reservations.

Reservations within Germany are optional, and only worth €3 anyway. Reservations within France are €10 or €20. The €20 rate will cost one of your credits, the €10 rate won't.

If you'll take two Eurostars, a couple of French TGV, and a  few German reservations, you'll just about break even, but you'll have done a hell of a lot of unnecessary maths!
