Question

How to choose/apply travel days when booking ahead of time and how soon in advance of trip to activate pass?

I go on a trip in two weeks and wanted to start booking trains ahead of time. I haven’t activated my pass yet because I figured I should wait until like a day or two before leaving. If I want to start booking trains in advance, how can I choose when I’ll use travel days and when I don’t want to? And should I activate my pass to start booking?

You don't need to activate your pass to make reservations. You can make them now. And you can add trains to My Trip, to see all your travel.

Seat61 has a good guide to how and where to make them, or you can post your itinerary here, add other forum members can advise.

Waiting with the activation until you actually start your trip is a good idea.

You can already create the trip with your train journeys and book reservations without having your pass activated.

I recommend booking reservations directly with the train company instead of the interrail reservation system (to avoid the additional 2€ booking fee and for more detailed seat selection, but not always possible to do online)
