The Eurail app will not let us make a seat reservation. We have been trying for our entire trip. We had similar problems last year, but could eventually do it. Now it will not let us at all. We have had to book through the railways and pay full price. It has made the pass almost entirely useless.

The rail planner app shouldn’t be used to make seat reservations. It’s main functionality is to log your journey, linking it to your pass.

The pass is your ticket. Reservations are something seperate and usually not available in the app. Usually they come as a seperate pdf ticket, sent to you by mail. For a lot of trains you don’t even need reservations.

You can do it via the Interrail/Eurail website or app, but it’s usually the more pricey option because of the 2 EUR booking fee per reservations and it’s not the most functional thing as well.

Better option is to make one with the railway companies themselves or a website like www.raileurope.com (add your interrail as a discount pass in the details)

For which trains, routes, dates and times do you want to make seat reservations? We’ll get you on the way, so that you can refund those normal tickets.

The app is never the best place to make reservations. It’s buggy and charges a booking fee. Please see the guide here, and choose your country of departure for each train, to find the best websites to use:

You need to provide route, date and time in order to get advice on how to make reservations.
