Trying to work out if the Interrail Global Pass is valid on RENFE, specifically the Cercanías/commuter trains in the North/Northwest of Spain. Any help is appreciated.

Yes it is valid. However Cercanias tickets are fairly cheap so it's not always good value to use a pass day.
Note the mandatory reservations on almost all Spanish trains (except Cercanias). They are sometimes not available online, only at counters in Spain or Germany.
