Hello there! Im going interrailing for the first time this summer and was curious how the interrailpass works with the public transit in foreign countries. I’ve heard from some people that it works as a pass for public transport such as intercity busses and short train rides while from others ive heard the opposite. I wanted to ask you guys to see what actually is allowed and what isn’t. Thank you all for the help!

Interrail includes almost all trains in Europe and you get a nice discount with a lot of ferry companies. I would say about 95% of rail traffic in Europe is included, except some private operators (like Flixtrain, Italo, some touristic railways,...)

Tram, bus, metro,... are not included, except rail replacement busses of course.

To commute, you’lld better get a season ticket of the railway company itself :)
