My friend and I are both fairly new travelers and were told by a friend that Eurail would be a good option for us to travel in Europe this summer. We were able to book trains that don’t require seat reservations, but when we tried to book seats on the trains that do require reservations, we weren’t able to. On the eurail website, we got a message saying we need seat reservations to board but there wasn’t actually a way to make seat reservations. When we tried on a separate website affiliated with the trainline, we were unable to book seat reservations using the eurail global pass discount. Has anybody had this issue before or know how we can book our seats?

Issues with reserving seats for train from Zurich to Venice and from Bologna to Florence
If you are talking about the EC from S itzerland to Italy there are problems booking reservations for it.
For the trains in italy i recommend booking through ÖBB online. You have to select Interrail under Discount to get the reservations (instead of using the just seat reservation selection)
(This should work for the part inside italy that has a mandatory reservation, but not for the full route from switzerland)
If that does not help, please mention which train and at what time you are trying to reserve.
