Making a stop within my country before going home

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a 2-week Interrail trip departing from Paris (France, my country of residence) and I have a question about the number of travel days I need and whether a specific train is covered.

Here's my itinerary:
- Paris → Lecco (via Zurich)
- Lecco → Padua
- Padua → Bologna
- Bologna → Genoa
- Genoa → Nice (where we'll spend 3 nights)
- Nice → Paris

I understand that with the Global Pass, I get 2 journeys in my country of residence: one to leave France (Paris → Lecco) and one to return (Nice → Paris), and that these don't count as travel days.

My question is about the Nice → Paris leg specifically. Since we're stopping in Nice for 3 nights before taking that train, it will be used on a completely separate day from the Genoa → Nice leg. Does it still count as the included "return journey" in my country of residence, or does it need to be on a travel day?

And just to confirm: does the app correctly calculate 5 travel days for this itinerary, or should it be 4?

Thanks in advance!

That’s incorrect. The travel days in your country of residence aren’t extra - they are part of your total.

Your itinerary above has six travel days, including three in France. You wouldn’t be able to do that.

You can buy a 7 day pass, and pay separately for the short trip between Ventimiglia and Nice.

Or buy a 5 day pass, and pay separately for Genoa to Nice.
