Hi Interrail,

This is just to let you know that scanning the interrail mobile doesn’t like seem be working on Trenitalia trains in Sicilia. Has been like this for the last couple of days, for me at least…
Unfortunately, every year I use the mobile pass, it’s necessary to explain train staff that the app doesn’t work properly. But this time, it has been working fine outside of Sicilia luckily.

What do you mean by “not functioning”?

I can see times for trains in Sicily on the app.

If you are referring to staff scanning the Aztec barcode, not being able to read it is due to their equipment not being programmed correctly, The code contains all the information required.

If scanning does not work for whatever reason then the visual data is there for a manual check, staff having an issue with this is down to their lack of training and inability to do their job properly.

It happened quite often to me in the past that the QR code wasn’t working but most train staff is aware of it and checks the journeys which were added to the pass instead.

I only needed to discuss once on a regional train in Germany (Essen to Bottrop). Probably the inspector never saw an Interrail pass before and first claimed that the QR code is invalid. After a short discussion and a call with the inspector’s boss we fortunately got the situation sorted.
