I want to make sure that my planned itinerary makes sense, and that the Global Pass I purchased includes trains that get me to each country from the previous. Here is my planned trip:

Start in England.
Next stop Paris. (I have purchased the ticket for this separately.)

Next stop Amsterdam, Netherlands

Next stop Helsinki, Finland (I was told that Helsinki is NOT a stop on Eurail. Is this true? Is it a special destination?)

Final stop Stockholm Sweden.

Is this the best order? Are trains available between stops? Anything else I need to know? This is my first, and probably my last trip to Europe. It will take place in May - early June, and Sweden is probably the last stop (or if a better order makes sense that put Sweden either first or in the middle, I’d like to know).

Let me know if I can supply any additional information. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I would encourage you to read up about how the pass works, and also look at a rail map!

Sure, Helsinki is covered, but it’s a long way there from Amsterdam. You’re going to be taking a ferry somewhere (not covered by the pass, but some companies offer a discount). Either a short trip from Estonia, or a long one from Germany.

How do you propose to get from Helsinki to Stockholm? Round the top, by train (bus needed for part of the journey in Lapland) or by ferry?

Seat61 will give you an idea of the route you can take from London to Helsinki. https://www.seat61.com/Finland.htm

You could also travel from Amsterdam to Stockholm on a night train: Take any day time train Amsterdam-Hamburg (no direct trains, but change at Duisburg or Hannover necessary), then board the SJ-sleeper Hamburg-Stockholm. Will only use one travel day.

Stockholm to Helsinki is served by several ferry companies, some of which offer Interrail discount. You could then fly out of Helsinki (or travel back to Stockholm)

As this route would only need 3 travel days and reservations on all of those trains and ferries aren’t cheap, a global pass might not even be worth the money.

You’ll need to check what the individual prices are and do the maths.

For checking ferry timetables and prices, you could use directferries.com

For checking interrail reservation prices, have a look at https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm
