Question

Past trip not able to delete makes me unable to add new trips

This is less a question but more of a complaint.

I have added a night train journey from Zurich to Amsterdam (arrive around 9am). However due to a change in plan, I decided to leave the train earlier at Koln station at 5am.

Now I wanted to travel from Koln to Berlin, however I cannot add a new trip because it says the journey is overlapped with the night train journey.

However I cannot delete the night train journey because it was in a past day. Now I am on an ICE risk being fined.

What should I do in this case? In my opinion not being able to delete past journeys is a bad design.

As a workaround, I would suggest adding a later train.

I can’t remember, but maybe adding the train manually gets around the overlap problem?

@Eurail Community Moderator  I guess this is an edge case, of somebody needing to change plans after midnight.

It’s caused by 1) recent changes, so that passengers can’t edit a trip after midnight and 2) overlapping journeys not allowed.

This could perhaps be fixed by allowing overlapping journeys (with suitable warning).

There are many occasions when overlapping journeys are appropriate - the most common of course is when delays occur, and you are able to catch a train that should have been impossible. Another, like this case, is when you jump off a train early, and want to recommence your journey.

You can add a train manualy.

I agree that overlapping trains should be allowed with a warning.

This was dismissed a few years ago, because adding an overlapping train manually is possible as a workaround. However:

  1. You first have to realise that you can actually add trains manually.
  2. Then you have to guess that overlapping trains are actually possible with manually added trains, despite this not being possible with trains added from the planner.
  3. This post shows that there is now more need for overlapping trains, because of changes in the app, so more people will run into this.

At the very least, the warning you see when trying to add an overlapping journey, should be changed to include the workaround to add the overlapping train manually. But I'd rather see the possibility to add an overlapping journey after a warning. Can something be done please?

Hello!

Thank you for the feedback. I will ask this internally.
