I want to buy a phyisical global pass, I bought one a couple of years ago and was sent to my country in South America but I don’t remember how long it took to arrive. I want to buy again the physical pass but want to send it to my first destination in Switzerland. So when I’m about to purchase it says it will arrive on april 6th in standard mail, is it there anyway to pay and extra fee to get it faster? Or please if someone had bought this recently and got it before the day it says it will arrive.

Passes are sent from the Netherlands (using registered mail). 6th April is a very safe estimate: it should make it to Switzerland in a couple of days easily.

However you must be certain that someone can collect it, they will need to sign.

You must be absolutely sure that there will be someone to sign for the delivery as the pass will be sent by registered mail.

Thanks for the answers. Yes, the pass will be delivered to a relative’s house in Switzerland. I’m actually arriving on March 28th, so I really was hoping it to arrive before that date so I can start using it since I arrive. But well, guess I will have to wait a few days and might received it myself. Thanks.

Why not order it now and put your relative's names and address? They would sign at delivery themselves.

You should even do that as if your name isn't on the mailbox/registration system they might not deliver it.

Good advice. If you send the pass in your name and the pass arrives before you are there to sign, then the pass might be sent back to Eurail as registered mail only is kept for a certain number of days before it is sent back to the sender.

Yeah, well I didn’t think that could be an issue, I mean, that the person has to be there to sign because I dont know who in the family will be there to receipt it. But thanks for this comment I will look more into this. I know you can even send them to hotels and I doubt they will expect you to be there to receive it. But again I will do some research about this, thanks

As long as the family name matches the mailbox and there's someone to pick it up, it's fine. I've signed countless of registered mail for my parents or brothers/sisters.

If there's nobody at home it will be stored at the local post office and they have 7-10 days to pick it up.

This solution is way safer than hotels in my opinion.

@thibcabe as you are Swiss you know the rules of the Swiss Post. Here in Sweden, it is not possible to sign for the registered mail of someone else unless you have the ID/passport of that person.

I actually decided to buy the pass and just got the email about the pass being sent. It says “Don't forget: somebody needs to sign upon delivery.” So I don’t have to worry about who will sign as long someone signs.

Just an update in case someone has the same doubt about delivery. I know it won’t be the same and you will always have to keep in mind the estimated delivery date they give you, but in my case the pass just arrived today. I bought it on February 25th and the estimated date was April 6th, and it arrived to my relatives house on February 28th, so it only took 3 days and not over a month like expected.

Eurail/Interrail don't decide who has to sign as that is decided by the national post service. But as @thibcabe has written, in Switzerland it shouldn't be a problem to get someone else to sign.
