Travelling from Nice to Avignon to Annecy and then Paris is it worth buying a rail pass ? And if you buy it do you have to pay extra for the train ticket

Long distance trains in France have mandatory reservations, so yes, it costs extra. 10 or 20 eur per seat.
Price, depends. When are you travelling? Check prices on sncf-connect and compare ordinary prices with prices of a pass.
