requesting a pass cover number - urgent

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have been trying to get a pass cover number but when I  try to fill in the required field it will only accept 4 characters - it won’t load the last two o-  and so I can’t get the number which I need urgently to make reservations.  Please advise on what I can do… Thank you

What do you need it for? What train are you trying to book (route, date, departure time)? There are only very few cases where it is really needed, since most booking websites now accept mobile pass numbers (if they require a number at all).

In general, use this page as a guide for pass reservations:

Edit: I can enter 6 characters here:

https://www.eurail.com/en/book-reservations#/generatePassCoverNumber

Update - I tried on another device and it worked this time.  Maybe when Eurail sells a mobile pass you could make a point of telling the traveller that a pass cover number is required to make bookings, and how to get one?  Thanks!

Like I said, there are only very few cases where this is needed. I can only think of Italiarail to book a couchette on an Italian night train. You normally want to avoid Italiarail because it has extra fees. Instead, use raileurope.com (but for couchette bookings it has a bug).

Thanks for your fast reply. But I have  in fact  been wanting to use Rail europe for quite a few bookings , which asks for the number,  and was getting anxious!   and I am glad you mentioned the Italian bug as I need to book a couchette from Rome tomorrow. Is Italiarail the only option for booking?

You can also book an Italian couchette via Eurail. Eurail adds a €2 booking fee per person and train. Italiarail adds a €3.50 booking fee per order.

Sleeper compartments in Italy can however be booked via Rail Europe.

If you're close to a ticket office, then I'd just go there. You can book Italian reservations not only at a ticket office in Italy, but also e.g. in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

thanks rvdborgt!  but I’m in Australia and will need to book before getting to Italy.  Didn’t you say that Rail europe has a bug when it comes to booking couchettes?  so I  will use Eurail.     Am very grateful for your help!

Yes, for couchettes, but not for the sleepers :)

Those are 2 different things:

https://www.seat61.com/sleepers.htm

However for sleepers in Italy, you can only book the complete compartment and that can be expensive, so a couchette is then a more cost-effective solution.

thanks again. I’ll book via the Eurail site then, can’t afford a sleeper unfortunately!  Have learnt never to book a six bed couchette though.
