We (2 seniors) are traveling from Vienna to Prague, then Prague to Salzburg, then back to Vienna to fly home. Prague to Salzburg and then back to Vienna are pricey if I want a refundable ticket. I hate to be locked into a non refundable ticket. Advice?
Single tickets or pass

You can’t have both cheap and flexible, but if you time it right you can have the best of both worlds.
Vienna to Prague by Railjet costs a maximum of €59, bought on the day.
If you travel on Regiojet, it will probably be less, even booking late. Just as an example, I could buy a ticket for tomorrow for under €20 on regiojet.com.

Prague to Salzburg. Maximum fare €79. Again, I see prices tomorrow for €20 on the Czech Railways website cd.cz.

Salzburg to Vienna - again you have a choice of two operators, ÖBB and Westbahn. Maximum €65, again you can find it for less even the day before.

The minimum pass you can get is for 4 days travel, but you’d only use 3 of them. I would stick with single tickets, and try to buy at least the night before travel.
