Question

SJ Private sleeper, no discount with eurail first class pass. Are private sleeping compartments not included?

I purchased two first class passes from eurail. I was trying to book the below journey from SJ official website. When I try to book the tickets, only the chair car and couchette prices are reduced (~100-500 KR) but the private sleeping compartment is still the same price (7000 kr for each leg, 2 adults). The eurail pass mentions that private first and second class private cabin are included and seat reservation is around 70 euro but I see only the total price. The pass info has been added to the traveller info.

Below are the journey details.

Outward journey: Stockholm Central to Abisko turiststation
Departs: Sunday, 21 December, 18:12. arrives: Monday, 22 December, 11:00. 2 adults.
SJ Night train, train 94

Return journey: Abisko turiststation to Stockholm Central
Departs: Thursday, 25 December, 16:37. arrives: Friday, 26 December, 10:13. 2  adults.
SJ Night train, train 93

Thanks for your help!

The private 1st class compartment should have a pass price. It does on e.g. Malmö-Stockholm.

However, I currently don't see any prices for the 1st class sleeper compartments Stockholm-Abisko, not even without a pass added. Are you still seeing prices?

In any case, You'd better ask SJ. They're also on Facebook.

Yes, I dont see 1st class compartment but I see Private sleeping compartment 2 class. I thought a 2nd class private compartment should be bookable from 1st class pass.

Was trying to find out more regarding this and it seems the policy is for private compartment we need to have as many travellers as berths for the discounted rate otherwise its full rate. We are two of us but the compartment requires 3 i think.

With SJ, you can't book a private compartment 2nd class with a pass. You can only book a bed in a compartment. Since the sleeper compartments in the trains Stockholm-Abisko(-Narvik) have 3 beds, this means you can only book a private compartment if you book 3 beds (indicate the same sex for all) and then check, before paying, that you're indeed in the same compartment. This is not really satisfactory.

Maybe @AnnaB has a better idea?

@ss203 I guess that you are too late to make a 1st class reservation on that train. @rvdborgt I don't have a better suggestion.

I haven't been able to find any available 1st class sleeper compartments, not even in November (very low season).

@rvdborgt @ss203 After checking with an SJ expert, I got the answer that there isn't any 1st class sleeper coach on the night train to Abisko (Narvik).

Indeed. There is a first class sleeper in the later one going to Lulea (switch in Boden) but availability seems to be very limited (I only see availability on 19 December near the date you mention).

Apparently SJ has five1st class sleepers, of which one is more or less permanently out of use. 2 sleepers are used between Stockholm and Malmö and the other 2 are used between Stockholm and Luleå.
