I basically purchased integral pass to travel from France to Italy and I have to pay for seat reservations, and I cannot travel with my pass from France to Italy, which is what I paid for. It’s a total scam.

You should complain to SNCF: they want a mandatory reservation, and an expensive one too.

It's not that Interrail is hiding the fact that reservations are needed for some trains. They mention it directly on their homepage.

It’s not a scam. It’s stated clearly how it works. It’s up to you to read everything and do the math what travel option is most interesting (Interrail, normal tickets or another travel option)

Nothing holds you back to ask for a refund (the conditions are very lenient in fact) or exchange for another pass which will give you the desired travel options better.

There’s also a Plus pass, which you can use to make reservations for more pricey trains, which come in handy in countries like France, Spain and (to a lesser extent) Italy, which have rather pricey seat reservations for long distance/high speed trains.

Well Italy is IMO the best place in all of Europe to use a Plus pass. All the reservations are free without consuming any of the 3 credits. Together with the very frequent trains, this gives back a lot of flexibility.

In contrast, you really run into the risk of consuming all your credits if you travel on relatively few trains in France. In Spain, you have problems with some reservations not being covered by the Interrail booking portal.
