Train Options - website vs app

Hello! I’m travelling to Italy next month and I have a question about train options. On the website, the train I want (and that I already confirmed that exists) is available, but doesn’t show on the app. The thing is, the next one requires a seat reservation. Can I board a train that is not in the app? If it comes to that?

The app does not limit in any way the trains you can use. In fact, it should not be used to plan because it is only updated about once per month, so it is not reliable enough. Use national planners or apps and for international planning, use the DB planner or DB Navigator app. For Italy, check www.trenitalia.com.

If a train is not in the app, you can add it manually. But by the time you're travelling, it usually has been updated with more up to date timetables.
