travel day activation in france

I have always activated my travel day the night before and never had an issue. Today on SNCF they said I improperly activated the day before and were going to fine me. They say in France you have to activate the travel day on the actual day of travel. I have been using eurail for 3 years and never had an issue. And my pass says valid today! Is it true that France is different?

No, they are making things up.

As long as the activation is done before the first train departs your pass is 100% valid.

Have you heard of this happening before? I have used 9 other travel days in France the same way and have never had a problem. Scanned the eurail qr and all was good.

I've never heard about this.

Regardless, it's not recommended to activate in advance. If something unexpected happens, e.g. you wake up ill, then it will be too late to cancel your travel day.

Hi @Mrkevindaugh, we understand that this was a mistake. Our operations team has already informed our contact at SNCF and clarified that this is not how the process should work.

If any fine was issued, please contact our CS team, as they can help with refunding the fine.
