Hey Guys, I'm 18 and this summer I want to do my first interrail with a travel buddy.

I need help with planning as I bought a 15 days global pass to go and come back to Italy

The city from where I am starting is Palermo which I'm going back before the end of the pass. The route would be Palermo-Zurich-Wien. Then I will be stopping at Bratislava to go to Prague (Bratislava-Prague) and Krakow (Bratislava- Krakow). After that I am going from Bratislava to Budapest, and Budapest-Bucarest-Istanbul-Sofia

Now here comes the problem. From Sofia I wanted to take a shortcut from Sofia to Belgrade but I can't find anything to go to it. Also because I wanted to go to Zagreb and Ljubljana before going back to Palermo.

I need y'all guys help you figure this out and also to see if any of you have tips or did this before

There are no trains from Sofia to Belgrade and neither from Belgrade to Croatia. You can do parts with the train, e.g. Serbian trains run until Šid and Croatian trains start in Tovarnik or Vinkovci, but you'll need a bus or taxi at some point.

What about from Belgrade to Budapest?

Belgrade to Budapest should be possible. Normally with a change in Subotica and Szeged:

I'm not sure from when the new 2025 timetable will be valid, since they're still figuring out what to do after the accident at the Novi Sad station building. But let's hope that will be clearer towards the summer.

Side note: Interrail limits travel to max. 2 days in your country of residence (with rare exceptions, Italy not included). This could be an issue for your trip.

Personally on day 1 I’d get a couchette on the Palermo-Milan night train using a pass day + in/out day. Then on day 2 get a Milan-Chiasso 6€ ticket before activating the pass for Chiasso - Zurich.

For the return it will be easier: on the last day travel through Italy and board the Palermo night train in Bologna or Rome.
