I would like to travel with my dog (28Kg) from La Palma to Reutlingen. so I have to travel throuh Spain and France. Which kind of ticket do I have to by for the dog? Is it possible to travel with a big dog with interrail?

Thank you for answering me!

Sabine

The rules for travelling with dogs is dependent on the operators, and is independent of whether you are travelling with a pass or paying for your ticket. The operators give this info on their sites

Renfe is a little more complicated - you can take any dog on local trains but there seems to be restrictions of 10Kg on the AVE trains. Currently the shared service (Renfe/SNCF) from BCN to Paris also only allows pets up to 10 Kg in travelling baskets so you would need to use the local trains via Port Bou

Although not relevant to your plans it is worth noting for others that Eurostar only allows assistance dogs.

Good decision of Eurostar. Makes the trip more enjoyable 🙌

Note that this is gonna cost  you the proverbial arm+leg-certainly for FR you need to buy normal half fare tix-and these are not cheap at all. You canNOT use a half-price IR for all this.

There are also many country-specifc rules for what to do with the beast-muzzle, in container, whatever-remnants of a century ago when rabies was rife and never adjusted. For many without much knowledge about this it may offer some nasty surprises.

Is not la Palma one of the Canary islands? or maybe also some other place in ES/ In case you have to fly anyway-fly all the way

Please stop writing wrong information. You have been told before that this is not true. The dog ticket for domestic French trains is 7 EUR and for the international TGV between Spain and France 20 EUR for a big dog, please read more in the link below.

Not sure where, or even whether, I read it, but is the Paris SNCF/Renfe partnership changing in December so that route may adopt the pet policy of Spain, who do not allow big dogs on their express trains.

Edit:

Should do my own research.

Spain? It's 100% TGV INOUI

After 9 years of cooperation, our partnership with Renfe is coming to an end. From December 11, 2022, all your trains departing from France to Spain are 100% operated by SNCF and TGV INOUI. This new offer leads to a modification of the services between the two countries, including the termination of the Marseille-Barcelona and Lyon-Barcelona connections. Up to 3 daily round trips now allow you to reach Barcelona from Paris Gare de Lyon via Valence, Nîmes, Montpellier, Sète, Agde, Béziers, Narbonne, Perpignan, Figueres and Girona.

@mcadv You are incorrect again and apparently still haven't taken the effort to read the SNCF information available.
