I would like to travel from the Netherlands to Bologna. There are many possible routes. But if I for example travel from the Netherlands to Basel using a nighttrain and then take the train from Basel to Bologna with a transfer in Milano. Does this count as 1 day? Or 2 days? I guess that if stopped my journey in Milano it would count as 1 day, but if I then take a train from Milano to Bologna, it could count as 2 days (although it is within 24 hours). Can anybody help me? Many thanks in advance.

A travel day is from 0:00 until 23:59 CET. On a travel day, you can board as many trains as you like, also if they continue after midnight. That also means that if you board another train after midnight, then you'll need another travel day.
