Traveling twice from Germany

Is the following scenario possible: I purchase the 5 days in a month pass. I travel from Karlsruhe (Germany) to Neapel (Italy). From Neapel to Bologna (both Italy). One day trip to a small town outside of Bologna (Italy). From Bologna to Karlsruhe. From Karlsruhe to Leeds (UK).
Does that work?

You can travel within Germany on two of your five days.

You will use one day on when you depart Karlsruhe to go to Naples, and a second day when you travel from Bologna to Karlsruhe.

If you start your trip to Leeds on the same day as arriving back in Karlsruhe, that’s OK, as long as you leave Germany on that day.

Otherwise you’ll have to buy a ticket to exit Germany. Maybe buy a ticket to Kehl or Strasbourg, then you can use the pass from Strasbourg.

And do you know, if I do as you suggested (buying a ticket from Karlsruhe to Strasbourg) and use the Interrail Pass for the journey from Paris to Leeds. Is this still okay, even after I used both - Inbound and outbound ticket (for leaving Germany to Italy and coming back)?

Yes, that's fine. You can use the inbound/ outbound days at any time.

You can buy a ticket to Strasbourg on one of the trains that's going to Paris, then buy an Interrail reservation on the same train from Strasbourg-Paris.

It might be cheaper (but slower, of course) to buy a ticket to Kehl, then take the tram to Strasbourg.

You should check anyways, if you have in fact 2 inbound/outbound days or if you have 3.
I’m from Switzerland and had always 3 so far, which the first time was a pleasant surprise.
You can make sure by activating your pass, check how many days you have and disactivate it again.

Ah, good point @Dagi . I was assuming that the OP only has 2 inbound/outbound days, but they should check.

You can also buy a pass reservation from Karlsruhe to Paris that includes the German part of the journey.

Use this link:

https://www.bahn.de/buchung/start?intern=1#?KL=2&ET=PASSZUSCHLAG

The price including a ticket for the German part is only €15 (2nd class) or €30 (1st class). You can also add a BahnCard if you have one.

Notes:

  1. Do NOT check "Nur Sitzplatz buchen”.
  2. Do NOT do this on your phone, since it will redirect you to the DB Navigator app, where buying this pass reservation doesn't work. Do it on a pc instead.
