Question

Two passes on one phone or two phones

We are a couple planning Interrail travel to France, Italy and Switzerland next month, and need to put our passes on our phone(s). Wondering about the advantages/disadvantages of putting both passes on one phone or on two separate phones. We will always travel together. With both on one phone we can duplicate our trip details; if they are on separate phones can we duplicate or will we have to enter all the journeys separately for each pass? The snag I can see of both on one phone is using it at automatic platform gates, one of us will have to pass the phone back to the second person. what are people’s experiences and thoughts, please?

You can share a trip using the three dots at the top right of the screen.

No need to ‘pass back’ as such. Just send the other person through while you manage the phone. Some gates work with the seat reservations anyway, so you each can keep those on your own phone.

The big downside of sharing is that every single trip has to be together. If you’re in Germany and one of you wants to get an S-Bahn back to the hotel, for example, this could be annoying.

I would always recommend each person keeping the pass on their own phone as long as you all have a compatible phone. That each person always has their pass on hand. Maybe it happens that you dont find seats next to each other or maybe one person is getting food on the train. Or if you want to travel separatly for anything.
