Question

Validity of pass: What is my last day?

Hello everyone,

I hope this question has not been asked too many times - if so, I cannot find it ://
My first travel day will be December 4th. From what I have read, I then have to activate my pass tomorrow, December 3rd. I have a 1-month, 5 travel day mobile pass. I have reserved seats for my last trip for January 3rd. Now I am panicking that my pass might only be valid until January 2nd, since I already activate it on December 3rd. Can anyone help me out here with telling me what my last day is?

Thank you Interrail experts <3

If you activate on 3/12, then your last day is 2/1/2026.

Are you sure you have to activate by tomorrow? You can see that if you start the activation process (without actually doing the activation). You can then choose the start date and you can then see which start dates are possible.

If your first travel day is on the 4th of December, then you should activate the pass on that day.

Never activate a pass in advance unless you must start the validity before your first travel day.

Never activate a pass in advance unless you must start the validity before your first travel day.

This bit that Anna says is worth pointing out again - “unless you must start the validity before your first travel day.”

The main constraint with activating a pass is that it must be done within 11 months of buying it.

If I buy a pass on 01/01/2025 then I must activate it by 31/11/2025*.

If I don’t intend traveling until 10/12/2025 and wait until 10/12/2025 it will no longer be possible and I will have lost my pass.

For most people who do not run up against the 11 month limit (because they buy in April and travel in May for example) then this consideration doesn’t apply, but for people who leave it until the last minute to activate it is important.

* don’t rely on me being 100% correct on whether it's 31/11/2025 or 01/12/2025 (in other words *exactly* when the 11 months ends).  That’s what the world invented lawyers for.
