I have a rail pass, and am trying to find a train from Milan to zermatt. Nothing comes up on here, but I have found Milano central-Brig, and then brig to Visp, but can’t find the Visp-Zermatt leg except for on the train line site for another $100. Before I pay another $100 on top of my pass, is there anything else I can do on here?

On October, 25th you will have replacement buses (designated as “EV2” in timetable), If the Rail Planner is not updated before this date, you can also manually add the journey from Visp to Zermatt.

Hello @Jordyn

You should not search trains in the Rail Planner app, it is better to use the official sites of the railways, sbb.ch for Switzerland.

Between Brig and Zermatt engineering works are planned in autumn, but the passes are also valid on replacement buses.

Could you give us the date of travel if you need more help?

Thank you! And oh, yes, I forgot the date! The date I’m looking for is October 25th of this year. On the site I saw some listed, it did mention buses. Is this something I’d need to reserve ahead of time somehow to be able to use my pass? And if so, do you know how to do this! Thanks again!

Reservations are not possible in the replacement buses. In Switzerland, reservations are not needed and even if they're possible, they're generally a waste of money. The only mandatory reservation is from Milan to Domodossola (€10), if you use a EC train. There are also journeys possible without mandatory reservations, see sbb.ch.

Is Visp the only one we would be able to take buses from, or could we also do this from Brig? And which would be the better option if both?

Buses will be available only from Visp. On what time do you want to leave Milan? You have also direct trains from Milan to Visp, for example at 11:05 or 15:10.

We have very limited time in Zermatt, just 1 night so trying to get there with enough time to enjoy it. I’m having trouble finding the bus route that you shared above. Nothing comes up when I search Visp to Zermatt. I’m wondering how much longer the bus trip takes than the typical train route. Right now on my planner I have us leaving Milan at 8:25 am and arriving in Visp at 11:33 am. I’m not sure how much more time it will take to reach Zermatt on a bus, and more importantly, do not know how much time to allot for the bus the next day to get us to the train station to depart for Interlaken.

Use the website or app of Swiss operator SBB https://www.sbb.ch/en

@Jordyn

Search the timetables on sbb.ch and find Eurocity trains (EC), for example this one:

11:56 is the planned arrival in Zermatt with the bus. You have to buy a mandatory seat reservation in this train with a pass, but, if your time is limited, don’t waste it in regional trains from Milan.
