Im looking at the trip from Munich to the Zugspitze railway area.
I have seen the winter ticket allows a return trip to from Munich for around  70 euros

Is the rail portion from Munich covered on a Eurail pass at all allowing me to only buy a Zugspitze ticket to go up and down using all 3 rail systems which im thinking would be slightly cheaper or is the whole journey not covered at all meaning i have to buy the whole Zugspitze rail journey separately

A Kombi-Ticket Munich - Zugspitze costs 77€ return while the Zugspitze ticket alone costs 62€ (prices available online).

In that sense it is not worth using a pass day.

I'd suggest not buying mountain tickets in advance : if the weather is bad you'll have lost hundreds of €.

Unfortunatel;y i have one full day only to do the Zugspitze so if the weather isn't suitable i will still do it as its not just about the view its about the experience of going up the cable car and cog railway
